PHOTOGRAPHY

I really enjoy having photography lessons because I feel like I am exploring a field that I don't really know much about. Yet...

**There is a difference between a tripod (on the left) and a lighting stand (on the right)

FLASH HEAD

**BEAUTY DISH creates a very harsh lighting, looks the most artificial and screams 'studio'.

A circle in the eye (the reflection) is called 'catch light'. It very often tells you what kind of lighting has been used when taking the photo. The bulb's purpose is to show you the direction of the light... The ring around the bulb is the flash. In order to control those two lights, there are two dials on a flash head. One says 'power' and it controls the flash tube, and the other says 'lamp' and it controls the bulb.

The picture below shows a soft box which creates a totally different effect. This is because the light pushes through the diffuser/ the bigger the diffuser the softer the lighting will become. A natural form of a diffuser would be the clouds.

Bounce lighting is when you position the light in for example a corner and it bounces of in the direction of the model. This creates a very natural effect, useful when shooting images that are in a 'natural environment', for example a beach.

Flash meter measures the power of the light and gives you the reading in aperture (the hole in the lens). The ideal aperture in the studio is usually 5.6.
ISO: 100
Shutter speed: 1/160

!!If too high, turn the flash down!! & if it is an old flash head, then click the meter twice.

Key light: main light

AWB: Auto white balance (found under the WB button)
