Shooting the advert photos, was the easiest part of this unit, as I knew what I wanted to achieve straight away. When it comes to the day time look, I went for a messy bed look because I feel like it was appropriate and agreed with the brand's values. I am very happy with the outcome and enjoyed editing it as much as I enjoyed shooting it! If this photo had to be placed anywhere, I think it would look best in a magazine seeing as it is an advert. Either cosmopolitan or any other sort of a woman's magazine as its purpose would be to sell foundation for women.
This is my day time advert:
I wanted to make this advert look very fresh, very feminine. That is why I chose to shoot in a bed. The hair looks messy, but still very fresh and neat looking. This creates a realistic contrast between different elements of this photograph. I have kept the make up very minimum, but I think that's what makes it work. I have made this photo a little bit blurry to create this dreamy effect. I feel like this particular photo really reflected the way Max Factor likes to be represented, and that is why I chose it to be my main photo.
Here are some other photos from the shoot that I also liked:
This photo looked best in black and white, which I don't think is suitable for a summer/spring campaign. However, I will definitely keep it in my portfolio because I think it has its charm and the way the model is looking at the camera, creates a connection with the audience. The fact that my model is holding a cup with the word 'Love' on it creates more depth and meaning to this picture. I feel like that is why this photo is a bit different compared to the other ones from this shoot. It has more of a story... It looks like she has just woken up and looks very fresh and feminine.
However, I don't think this photo is suitable for a foundation advert because the eyes look very dark, which makes it seem mysterious and a bit too dark in general.
This is my moodboard for this shoot:
When it comes to the night time look, I have tried to create a real contrast between it and the day time look. Below you can see the final edit, that I will submit as my main image:
This image is a lot darker... I wanted to make this image look very magical, and make the model look like the Queen of the jungle. In my opinion it worked, and I couldn't be more happy with it. This was the only image that I was 100% happy with when editing the photos. The position of leaves is perfect as they sort of create a crown on the model's head, which was coincidental. I also like how the logo fits in at the bottom, and how the light is beaming off her face suggesting that, that is what you are suppose to focus on, which I think works really well. You could argue that this image is too dark for an add, but that is what I was going for and the desired effect.
If this photo became an official photo for Max Factor, it would look good on billboards.
The photo on the right is one of the other images from this shoot, however to me it looks like a nail advert rather then an eyeliner advert. This is because the model's hand is in the way of her face, and it almost looks like the model has just been caught touching her face. I don't think this looks like something you would see from Max Factor therefore I do not think it is good enough to act as an advert for this particular brand's products.
I also don't think she looks like the Queen of the Jungle in this shot, which is what I wanted to achieve. I think this is mostly because of the pose, and the lighting is a bit too bright, which doesn't create the kind of atmosphere I wanted to create in this shoot.
The hair doesn't look like I wanted it to either. It looks very un-neat and I was going for a very clean look. The make up isn't bold enough, which I think is due to the lighting. You cannot see the contour which was part of the look.
This photo is one of my favourite ones, however you can't see the make up in it and when I tried to edit in Max Factor's logo in, it did not look right, no matter where I placed it. I think this has taught me to think about positioning the logo and the description of the product while shooting my images.
I think the model's skin looks very nice, but like I have mentioned above when I was talking about the previous image, the eyeliner doesn't play the main role. It is not in the centre of attention.
This image makes the model look like she is used to being around nature, which is the kind of posing I wanted her to do for this shoot to symbolise the fact that she is the Queen of the jungle.
You can't really see the hair in this photograph, which is why it is not my favourite one and it looks very flat.
Below I have attached a mood board for this shoot:
I wanted this moodpboard to reflect the words:
- DANGEROUS
- FEMINIE
- WILD
- SEXY
